Are you happy with the additions or not?
I actually got a number of things I wanted:
my current iPod is upgradeable.
AAC! Yayay!
New Games!
Playlist creation on the go!
An alarm clock (I sleep with my iPod. insert joke here)
I still miss a way of recording with the iPod though...

I just sold my 20gb on Saturday on eBay (for $410...I think I made out pretty well). Bought myself a new 10gb today. I never filled up the 20gb anyway, and at $269 with my educational discount, it was hard to beat. I ordered a iPod dock to go with it as well /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
I like the looks of it....illuminated keys, thinner...I don't like that the battery life has been reduced, but 8 hours is still very good.
Can't wait to get my hands on it--this will be the third one I've owned!

I would've liked to have seen them go for a 10, 20 and 30 model as a choice. I just think the difference between 10 and 15 is miniscule. But I'm happy with my 20 gig iPod, so I think I'll hold onto it until I fill up the remaining 4+ gigs of space, which won't be until I can afford a new mac, because my iBook's HD only has 2 gigs free.

Honestly, I don't see anything major aside from the price drops. I still think there's more room for change in this device, but I believe Apple is taking a gradualist approach.

I agree. After all the excitment of it being updated, I expected something of a real big change.
They are however slowly improving it at least.
However, I expected to see at least an FM tuner. Missing this is just stupid.
Things that could of been added would have been a stopwatch, voice recorder, FM recorder and nice headphones or replacible headphones.
At least this time, one iPod works with both a PC and Mac like the MP3 player that I have.

I got pissed when I saw that it actually happened. I just got my 20gb for christmas and it just stinks when you get something that gets upgraded minutes later. And for the same price you paid.
The saving grace were the short-comings of this new rev. First, it's smaller. That's amazing! How in the world do they make the worlds' best large capacity mp3 player even smaller? Well, by taking out the ability to simply plug your firewire into it and making you lug around a dock instead.
Second, touch buttons instead of the buttons that previously encircled the scroll wheel. Ok touch technology is really cool but am I going to lose sleep over the fact that I have to use actual buttons that depress in order to operate? I don't think so.
Third, am I jealous that they decreased the battery spec???
Fourth, would it be nice to make your own playlists directly from your iPod. ABSOLUTELY! This is the one feature that does get me. I've always wondered why they wouldn't have made this a priority feature anyway.
Finally, the games and other bells and whistles. I've got a palm pilot loaded with games. I've got a cell phone with games. I've got a 17" Powerbook with really cool games. I'd rather keep the iPod battery for playing music instead of games.
The extra ten gigs would've been nice as well but I'll get over it.
Anyone notice the addition of the backlight button in the main menu of the updated software? Now, instead of going through three menus to adjust it you can just turn it on or off at will. Sweet.

i don't understand why they haven't gone to a colour screen. from a technological standpoint, it's so simple. the technology is readily available (witness all new mobile phones now, all have colour!), and from a consumer perspective, it's such a nice sell-point.
"thinner, lighter, roomier, colour. the new iPod - by Apple. Think Different."
i was hoping that'd be reality. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I don't think that 4 months would constitute an overnight change but I know how you feel.
What interests me most right now is this: Do you NEED the dock to sync? I love the iPod right now because you can use any FW cable. That is a mjor point in its simplicty.
As a matter of fact I often use one at work that I just steal off a FW burner when I happen to leaven mine at home. If I had to use the dock thing I couldn't do that anymore. I would also hate to lug yet anither thing around.

color? for what? only eats up battery. I really like it that way. I find it confusing that they found 15 and 30 GB drives, though...
perfect would be if it did have a color screen and if it would also be able to do everything my sonyericsson phone does. (including bluetooth and the SE clicker... /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
