I have a Sony Digital 8 (DCR-TRV140) digital video camera and a Powerbook G3 Powerbook with OS 10.2 on it. When I connect the camera to the computer via USB, iMovie says that there is "No camera connected" when I try to import video. Can anyone tell me why. The sony website says that OS X doesn't need any driver software. Please help, thank you-much appreciated.

I believe you need firewire on your G3, especially if you plan to use iMovie.

Are you sure it is USB? that would be the first USB video camera I have heard of.
Is there some other way for you to copy files onto the computer? If so do that and then later drop them into iMovie.

The USB is used only for transferring still pictures from your memory stick to the computer (and I'm not even sure whether the DCR-TRV140 has a Memory Stick slot, it's an older model). There is a 4-pin FireWire plug (iLink in Sony's standards) on the camera that's used for the video. You need a 4-pin to 6-pin cable (the 6-pin goes into your Mac) to connect them. You will never be able to get the video footage out through a USB connection.
