I have a Sony Digital 8 (DCR-TRV140) digital video camera and a Powerbook G3 Powerbook with OS 10.2 on it. When I connect the camera to the computer via USB, iMovie says that there is "No camera connected" when I try to import video. Can anyone tell me why. The sony website says that OS X doesn't need any driver software. Please help, thank you-much appreciated.

As Griffman posted via the kbase link above, your Sony is not going to work with iMovie. iMovie can only import via the Firewire port. The USB port on your Sony is designed to be used with low quality (relatively) web streaming applications. It isn't fast enough to do the video transfer that you are wanting to do. You need to get a camera that has a Firewire, or a.k.a. ieee-1394, or aka 1394, or aka iLink (Sony branded) port on it. Most DV camcorders have these ports now.
