Java glitch in Golive

I am puzzled by the behavior of a java applet
http://www.crauswords.com/applet.html
This has previously been troublefree under 9.2.1 with Golive 5 - ie I could see it in action in the preview.
I'm now using Golive 6 with OSX 10.2.3
Have updated Java 1.4.1 and trashed Golive preferences.
Still get I Explorer freezing and no effect in preview
What are other troubleshooting options in this context?
