I have always used IE (now 5.2.2) but was wondering about switching to Safari (or another browser) any suggestions ? Can more than one be used on the same Mac ? I'm running an eMac 700 with 384 ram. Thanks
Enjoy a cold one !

Safari (betta 1.0 and X.2.1) really is faster.
the bookmarks don't have a scroll bar which is a pain, and pictures do not download with thumbnails of what they are as IE does.

You can install and use as many browsers as you like. Several have great features. My favorites are 1.) Safari 2.) Camino 3.) IE. In Camino I love Keychain. In IE I love Autofill, In Safari I like Google Search.

Safari without a doubt - you will see a definite increase in speed and launching whether you have a dial-up or dsl.

Right now i'm still using IE primarily because Safari has problems with some details on few pages I use. But keep in mind that we have an old beta of Safari. There are newer ones with tabbed browsing, etc. Hopefully it will hit final version by the time Apple shows Panther in June.

My vote is for Mozilla. The way they block and unblock cookies is so easy, why can't Camaro (or Chevette, or whatever) do that? It's based off of Mozilla. Even Safari is. I'd like to use Safari, but no tabs and no easy cookie management = no use by me.

Safari is not based on Mozilla. It's based on the KHTML library used in Konqueror, an open source browser developed by the GNU community.

Ooops. Ok, my bad. Guess that means that my dream of Safari using Mozilla's cookie management is simply not to be. It's a shame, all I want is the freedom to pick and choose my cookies without too much difficulty.
No matter what Safari is based on, I still vote for Mozilla.

Remember that Safari is only in Beta testing at the moment. The full version may be 110 times better and could have all of the things that you wish. But don't hold your breath. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Of COURSE the final version of Safari will be better! Since the 2-12-03 update, numerous features have been added (tabbed browsing, auto-fill), including better integration with flash and other bug fixes. I'm using v64 right now (with tabbed browsing) and have a bookmarked web site that, when clicked on, auto-fills the page I'm at. Quite nifty, aint it? /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

/forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I wait in anticipation for the official release. I am going to stick with v60 for the time being. If it ain't broke, dont fix it. Until something better comes along. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I use Safari, but still have IE in the dock just in case. When I switched, I used IE b/c I knew it already. But I have tried Omniweb, Mozilla and Chimera. Omniweb has its little issues that was enough to make me switch to Mozilla. I loved the tabbed browsing but it was such a big download including other things that I never used, like mail, but then I found Chimera. It was my latest browser until Safari came out. I really do like Safari but miss the tabbed feature and I'm waiting for a beta from Apple. I don't know if v64 is a good beta or just an 'alpha-type' app. v60 is working good on my iBook 10.2.4 right now which is nice for beta software. I believe June is when the final version of Safari will be out, but those are the rumors, seems that there is a file that states the date somewhere... hmm

Well, I use both, IE and Safari. I mainly use safari because of it's speed and simplicity. But currently, indeed, safari has some bugs or lack on features that IE (and maybe others) have. Such as: I simply cannot login on my Ingrammicro reseller site with Safari.
Some sites using special features come out messy. (but I don't know why)
But I trust Apple, and after a while, I can use Safari all the time..
Greetings,
Ge4-ce
