I have an external DVD-RW drive from OWC attached to TiBook Ghz, and I just burned a data DVD. When I insert the disc into my combo drive, it spits out. Yet when I insert the disc into the external drive, it recognizes without any problem. Does anyone know what the deal is? Did I do something wrong? Please help!

Based on my experience with passing a data DVD-R disc around to some friends, it really is a crap shoot whether it will work in other DVD-ROMs players. Of the 5 or so friends that tried it, only one could read a data DVD-R that I created on my superdrive. I figured it was due to the lack of standardization or the media.
So far, I am unimpressed with the ability to use data DVD discs as a means for sharing large amounts of data. They work great for archiving for later retrieval from the same DVD drive that created them, but I worry about my archives not being readable by my future DVD-ROMs that I might own. Since I plan on buying Macs for the rest of my life, hopefully Apple will make sure that all future superdrives can read data DVDs created on older superdrives.

I am unsure why you would not be able to play a DVD on the same drive that burned it, unless there is an alignment problem...
I may; however, be able to offer a clue about Windows incosistency. XP does not include a decoder to play a DVD, forcing the owner or OEM to select and install from a choice of flavors. WinDVD for example, does a rather poor job at playing te discs I burn (but they do work).
