music timing changing in iPhoto

Using an MP3 file to accompany and iPhoto slideshow (using a dual USB port iBook). Everytime I play the slideshow the mp3 music file I have selected to use with it ends at a different time. It appears like the audio is slipping in relation to the photos, so I can't count on the music ending when I want or the tempo matching the character of the photos like I had planned. Is this a known bug in iPhoto2? Is there any way to sync or anchor more precisely the audio track being used with the photos in the iPhoto slideshow?
Also, even when the system volume control is maxed out the level is too low. Does iPhot set its own level, and can that be changed?

I think that is a feature of iPhoto3.
