I am trying to use my Airport to serve mp3 files to a computer near my stereo. The problem is that, at random times, the songs pause (for up to several seconds) for no obvious reason.
Hardware:
TiG4 1GHz with Airport card & 1GB RAM. This is the machine with the mp3 files on it.
PowerBook G3, 233 MHz, 392MB RAM, with Orinoco Gold card. Both have OS X 10.2.4 and are up to date.
Airport Basestation running with 128 bit encryption.
What I do:
Apple-k to connect from PBG3 to TiG4's user home directory (password-protected). Icon appears on desktop.
Run iTunes 3. The iTunes Music Folder on the PBG3's computer is an alias to the TiG4's library. (That's the folder next to iTunes 3 Music Library, not the entire folder). The library appears. I press play. Songs play, sometimes for several minutes. The, they abruptly stop. Time passes, sometimes half a second, sometimes 15 seconds. Then the music continues.
What I've tried:
From Terminal, I ran top. Nothing's competing significantly for processor time. I've renice'd iTunes and any other obvious program for file sharing to -16 with no improvement.
I've checked the signal:noise ratio for the Orinoco card through the preference function. It's stable, with no obvious change in signal strength.
The TiG4 is about 6 feet from the Airport Base, and it works fine for all other functions. I don't think that's the weak link).
Suggestions? I'd really appreciate the help since I've spent about $150 getting this thing in order so I can play my music on a real stereo. Thanks in advance for your insight!

this might just be a problem with itunes. i'm not running any sort of network, but sometimes itunes randomly pauses mp3s for a few seconds then continues playing them. maybe it's a RAM issue or something..
