Apple bundles two fax programs with its recently sold Powermacs: FAXstf, for System 9, and FAXstf X, for OS X, both by Smith Micro.
I found FAXstf to be flexible and easy to use, but I had a lot of crashes. I don't know whether the fax program was at fault.
FAXstf X, on the other hand, is useless. It would not reliably transmit the faxes it was supposed to, and there was no way to combine two or more pages in one fax, so you couldn't use your own cover sheet.
Now Smith Micro is offering (until the end of this month) an upgrade to "FAXstf X PRO" for $40. The e-mail they sent me says it is fully supportive of Jaguar and Aqua and all that good stuff, and is fast and reliable and has the functionality of FAXstf.
If that were true, I'd think it is definitely worth $40. Has anyone tried it?

"laconic" or not, PageSender IS a very attractive alternative to FaxStf, and IIRC, much less $$. It is somewhat simplistic, but it does WORK. To this day, I have NEVER been able to get FaxStf to work in OS X, although it did work fairly well for me in OS 9.xx.
Unless the "Pro" version is way, way, way better than the standard one, I would not waste my time with it. BTW.... I got the same email /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
