Ok i have a win98 machine, a flower power imac and went and bought a fast ethernet 10/100 5 port hub made by linksys' offshoot company, "network everywhere". sorry to ask this simple question but i have been looking thru these posts and havent found the answer. (have installed everything and the pc gets online fine)..
i have cable internet thru Cox, got the modem hooked up to the hub, and plugged in the pc and the mac. cant figure out where to go from there! did all i could with the limited info i had...
i THINK i need the hubs' ip address right? that way both machines go for that address and not two different ones? im sorry..someone walk me thru this or point me to a site with this basic, beginner info! thanx ahaead of time guys, this is my last hope lol....

..and oh yeah, there isnt any paper or number with the ip address for my box in the box it came in. i read somewhere that with your "router" (my hub basically is a router right?) that it will come witha piece of paper with the address on it. hmmm..

sorry to disapoint you but a hub or a switch is not a router. A router can contain a hub or a switch, but it will still be called a router. Unfortunately the iMac only has one ethernet port so you can't use that as the router either. You could buy an aditional ethernet card for the PC (or if the modem has USB use that instead of one of the ethernets) and then buy Windows XP so you can share the network that way. But the easiest thing will be to return that and buy one of the Linksys 4 port routers. They've gotta be pretty cheap nowadays, but I haven't checked lately to see what prices are like.

I have no answer, but have you tried using the search facility in this forum (it's at the top of the screen)? Lots of posts came out after I entered the keyword "networking" in the search field, and then limited the search to the "Networking and Internet" section.

I remember seeing a thread about that matter a while ago but I can't recall the poster's name. It was great - it walked you through all the details. I put that in a corner of my mind because I want to do that eventually.

Please post the solution to your problem when you find it, it wiil help me.
