The DV camera will not play back the video. It will only display one frame when video is stopped and then when started again will stay on that fram until the video is stopped and then will display that frame.
Please help

Go to View>External Video and select "All Frames." That should fix your problem, assuming that everything else is set up properly.

Any other options??

We are using Final Cut Pro 3 and the Camera is a Canon XL1s 3CCD Digital Video Camcorder (NTSC). We are borrowing the Camera from a friend. It's a very very nice camera. But it's not doing what we want right now.

There are fairly detailed explanations on how to set up FCP to display video to external devices in the FCP manual. Consult the page for your setup and make sure you've followed all the instructions.
Basically, the camera needs to be in VTR mode, connected to the Mac via FireWire. The Audio/Video settings should have FireWire NTSC selected for the external view. That's pretty much it.

I got an impression that your project may actually not be setup correctly. To view on TV through DV camera via Firewire, the project should be set up to the same as the camera's DV codec, in the US, most likely DV, NTSC. If the project setup does not match witht the output, FCP can not play back realtime. For example, if you are working with Offline RT, usually, you can not view the play back on a TV realtime on OS X. ( I think I could do this before with OS9, but that is such a long time ago that I do not remember clearly any lnonger.)
The other place to check is the audio/video setting. External device should be set to Firewire device. This usually requires shutting down and starting up FCP to take effect. ( On a good day, it someitmes work but not all the time.)

Hi,
Sorry, I've been too busy that I had no time to visit here.
1. to check and change the setting ----- one is in the sequence- seqence setting
the other one is in the preference. Now, once you place any footage in a sequence, FCP will not let you change the Sequence setting. A work around is to create a new Sequnce, then make sure the setting is correct in the sequence setting dialogue box, then copy the whole from the other one and paste it.
2. I also just remebered about one thing In FCP that is a bit odd. If the video you see on the Canvas is "NOT" showing the whole image, FCP will not be able to play back real time. If you zoomed in, or magnified the view in Canvas, you need to make sure that the video image in Canvas is set to "show all' or "fit to window'.

Hope this helps, and not too late.
good luck
