I really want screenshots to be .jpg, not .pdf as they open in preview which is more convenient than Acrobat Reader, and they can be attached to emails and web pages right away without going into Photoshop. I'm 97% sure Mac OS X doesn't do this by itself, but is there a 3rd party app or terminal hack to do it? Thanks

Can't you just open the PDF in Preview, and than choose export from the menu to convert it into JPG?

with Apple's GRAB utility, screen shots are saved as .tiff files. These can be easily converted to jpg with any image editing software.

In pre-10.2 systems, you could change the default. You cannot do so any longer. The easiest thing to do is just tell the system to use Preview for all PDFs, or if you don't like that solution, just drag the screenshots onto Preview manually.

Doesn't Jaguar come with SnapzPro included, which lets you choose the format you want to save the screen shot to prior to taking it?

I use "Snatcher" - a free app, which will save in either PCT, JPG, PDF, or TIF format. And it's got an buildt-in timer too! AND you can set the level of JPG compression /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
Dl. it from Versiontracker.com

How do I use the GRAB utility? Is it included in OSX or do I have to download it?
Is it like the screen capture key on a PC?
Thanks,
Shuke

New Macs come with Snapz Pro, but Jaguar itself doesn't, so if you bought Jaguar separately from your Mac, you're out of luck.
