Jaguar/Monitor Problems

My client, for whom I just installed Jaguar onto his G4 PowerMac, had a startup problem this morning. He booted up his computer, and the Apple 17" monitor had this message, or something to this effect:
"Out of Frequency. Monitor will not light up ... blah blah blah (some technical jargon)"
I had configured the monitor to 1280 x 1024 pixels last week, and since last Tuesday when I installed Jaguar, it was running smoothly, purring like a kitten (pun intended).
Can someone offer an explanation why the hard drive is booting up, but there's no operating system visible on the screen, just the message?
