Hi, i've had this problem with my MAC(Quicksilver, dual 800, 0SX 10.1) for a while now. When I put in a CD sometimes it will eject by itself and a screen comes up saying I did not put away the device properly, etc. BUT i didn't eject it, it does it by itself....then I'll put the CD back in and not only will it not show up as an ICON on the desktop but it will eject even quicker than before. If I keep on trying to put the CD back in, eventually it won't show up OR let me eject it manually...so I have to restart.
this first happened to me when I tried to play a cheap Errol Garner CD I bought at Tower Records discount store in NYC. the wierd thing is....I once brought this CD to a friend's house(who has a MAC, earlier model, but running OSX)...and the same thing happened on his computer. it that had never happened to him before.

CD Tray Exorcism?

I don't know about that one, but here's a story about the SuperDrive tray in the new Dual G4's.
The first time I shut down with a blank DVD in the tray, a dialog window asked me, do I want to burn, eject, or cancel? I chose "eject." The tray opened, and stayed open for exactly two seconds. Then it closed on my fingers and on the DVD just as I had it half way removed from the tray. I didn't lose a finger, but I was concerned that the DVD seemed scratched. However, it seems to work O.K.
The moral is, choose "eject" only if you don't want to eject! If you want to eject the DVD safely, choose "cancel" and then shut down after you take out the DVD.
