Hi, I was updating my 30 gig ipod this evening when, I bumped lose the connector. It said possible loss of data could occur. I reconnected immediately. The ipod seemed frozen for 30 minutes or so. I the read troubleshooting tips. Followed the reset operation and the began to reload ipod. I can't get it all on . It loads to about 600 songs the I recieve the unknown error 36 message. Can anyone clue me in as to what has happened and what I can to to fix it? Must I load the 1.3 ipod software update , even though the new ones ship? with it already ?
any help is appreciated , Thanks Boomer

If all your songs are in iTunes, then just restore your iPod with the iPod Software restore program that came on the CD included with your iPod. When you install it on your computer it resides in your Applications-Utilities folder. When you run the program, it will wipe your iPod clean. Then you can install your music to it from iTunes.

I'd second Peter here. Seems as if a restore is in order as the file structure is probably messed up.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replies. I supsected exactly that same thing, but wanted to check with the "podders" first before doing a restore. I have done exactly that and it failed again. I notiiced last night and AGAIN this morning it seems to shut down just as it enters the letter J in my 1000 + song update.
Jimmy Olsen Blues by the Spin Doctors... too much grunge or perhaps KRYPTONITE?? /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Anyway, I am about to do it again and see if the same thing occurs.
Is it possible that it is an issue with iTunes 4? I am running Mac OsX 10.2.6. Anyone heard of any type of conflict ??? Thanks again to all who hang out here. You have been an assist over the years with m various laptops and now the iPod. Boomer

Maybe the MP3 file is corrupted? So when it tries to play, your get the error message? Does the song play in iTunes? Other wise if a restore doesn't correct it then I would exchange it.

The song plays in itunes fine, i removed it,and then the entire album or list it was from. The same thing happens, i get to the spot where it was and nada, zilch., I wonder fs it is a problem on the hard drive of my ibook. (hope not)
Anyway, I am taking it in later to day to swap it. I purchased the 2 year deal for exactly this kind of scenario, Ya know, when one thinks of how far iPods have come in the last 2 years, it makes one wonder where they will be two years hence.
Thank again and I'll let y'all know what is the deal with the new pod, is the iTrouble with the iPod or the iBook.

Hi,
I returned the 30 GB iPod to Comp-USA and they swapped it out. Their Mac tech was helpful & got on the horn with Apple. He was told , the problem lay with iTunes and i must be running 10.2.2, "so ya need to upgrade". I then showed them on my iBook , that I am running 10.2.6 and have 640 mb of Ram. Ok, its not that they agreed. Suggested that perhaps my iTunes 4 was somehow corrupted, and that I should re-install. They swapped me the new iPod, and I headed off to home. Seemed reasonable, as I though of it, but I decided to see if my current version of iTunes would load completley on the new pod.
(BY THE WAY.....my new iPod has a BLUE blacklight as the one I returned yesterday had a WHITE backlight...anyway...)
Loading the iPod, was nearly 70% when the above mentioned ERROR-36 message appeared on the iTunes screen again. However this time I simply deleted the Album in question, plugged back in and completed my 1201 song update. It works like a dream, and I am very pleased.
Just 6000 songs more and I'll be finished. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
Thanks for the support folks, and Ill stay in touch,. Hope my report of what happened is helpful to someone who runs into the less than "perfect 36"....
