The cable can connect:
Dock to AC Power adapter.
Dock to Mac (6 pin firewire).
iPod to Mac
iPod to power adapter.
Neither the Dock nor the AC Power Adapter has a fixed cable, just sockets for the single removable cable.
The socket on the iPod is identical to the socket on the Dock, so the cable can be plugged either directly into the iPod or into the Dock (the Dock also breaks out a stereo audio mini-jack.) This way you can charge the iPod with either cable & Mac or cable & AC Power Adapter, without bringing the Dock.
The socket on the AC Power Adapter is a 6-pin firewire plug (provides only power) so the 6pin end of the cable can plug into a Mac or Power Adapter.

can generation 1 iPods play AAC Audio Files. If so, how? I am also interested in getting an iPod (when I can afford one) /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif but I'm not sure if I want to go cheaper and get a generation 1. Any help would be great.
thanks,

Yeah, you can update the firmware on an older iPod to allow AAC audio playing. Version 2.0 of the firmware adds lots of other cool features, but it's only available for the new iPods.
Although it may be out of your price range, I would highly reccomend that you look at the 15GB iPod. It includes the dock, case, and remote, which is not included with the 10GB, making it an excellent value.
