Having searched back to Jan 1, 03, I wonder whether anyone else regularly backs up to a CD-RW not supported by Retrospect. My drive is a La Cie 24-10-40 Firewire CD/CD-RW. I run an iBook (white) 600. Very simply, all the backup software I've found requires that the drive mount on the desktop, and mine doesn't with or without blank media. Even though it isn't supported, Retrospect recognizes the drive as does Toast and Disk Utility. Using Toast I can drag files to a CD or CD-RW, but that hardly qualifies as backing up. Even LaCie's backup program doesn't recognize this drive.
Is there something I'm missing? (Before I'm missing data?!)

I'll just bump this up for you with these thoughts:
I'm enthusiastic about using a firewire drive for backup, and some swear by an automated tape backup system. If you need the CD, maybe you could backup to some other place before burning?
