"Are you sure you want to change the extension..."

In the "Finder" menu item "Preferences", the preferences dialog has a setting "always show file extensions". It will only show the warning if you have this unchecked. (On the other hand, file extensions will always appear; I consider this desirable, but you may not.)

It makes no difference whatsoever on my system running 10.4.2 whether the Finder pref is set to "Show all file extensions" or not, and this warning (which wasn't there in Jaguar or Panther) is quite annoying inasmuch as I frequently change file extentions from, for example, .shtml to .html on our server. Someone really needs to figure out a way to disable the warning. (Apple tech support told me that it cannot be disabled.)
