Win -> Mac Conversion is ready!

The long-awaited Wndows to Mac conversion service is now available on the Intuit website here: Win->Mac Conversion
Looks like they are offering two levels of the service; one for drop-dead panics and the other for a 10-day turnaround. That same page offers links for a do-it-yourself conversion as well, with a downloadable tool, a downloadable free trial of WinQB 2003 to update your existing files, and a step-by-step guide in pdf format.
After reading through the step-by-step guide, it looks like a pretty straightforward process, but I would recommend reading that thoroughly before starting.

That's awesome news Mugzee! I'm really excited to see that possibly our "collective voices" were heard, and that there is a free downloadable conversion tool.
I'm going to let my wife try it out, and I'll let you know what she thinks. This is great news though, thank you very much for the update, and I'm sure she'll be anxious to try it out at the earliest opportunity.
Thank you again,

Have used the download converter on several Windoze Quickbooks 2003 files. They all converted fast and without a hitch. No complaints.
But why on earth would anybody pay $99.00 let alone $250.00 for Intuit to convert there files for them when using the FREE download converter is such a "no-brainer" is beyond me.

Thanks for the real-world information, orsonWelles, it's reassuring to hear from someone who's actually gone through the process.
It's clear to me that Intuit IS listening, although they can't respond directly, nor react as instantaneously as we'd like. They have committed to supporting this forum, are reading it, and will continue to do so. We're seeing the results of giving them feedback now, and the way to keep the improvements coming is to keep telling them what we want.
Check the wishlist thread if you have some suggestions for features you'd like. </hint> /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Is it just me or is anyone else having difficulty downloading the conversion utility?
I click "accept" and the connection stalls & fails. Tried it on IE 5.2.2, Safari, Netscape, even IE 5.1 on OS 9 no luck... is there sever trouble or am I not holding my mouth right?

There have been slowdowns all over the net for the last week and a half, probably virus and DDOS-related. I'm not sure if that's what's stopping your connection, but I was able to download it just now - (1:00am -0400)
It's a 4mb download, but you could always try getting it directly with an ftp client: ftp://ftp.quicken.co.../mac/quickbooks[/u]win2mac_converter.img

Hi Jim,
I'm not sure what you mean by "demo", but we were talking about the PC-to-Mac conversion options for QB Pro 5 for the Mac. Perhaps your browser doesn't support clickable links? Here's the raw URL for that webpage listed at the beginning of this thread, in case you need to paste it directly into your web browser: http://www.quickbook...2mac/index.html
There are links on that page for the do-it-yourself method of file conversion, which includes a downloadable utility, and the ftp link I posted a few days ago leads directly to that file. Just copy/paste it into your ftp client if you can't access it from the webpage.
Please let us know if you have further difficulties reaching that page.

Hi Mugsy,
I'm sorry if I wasn't more clear. In your first post about the conversion utility being available, you mentioned a free downloadable trial version of QuickBooks 2003.
I was able to download the conversion utility and manual, but had to order the QB 2003 trial version. That is what I been waiting for since 6/13.
Thanks for the reply.

ahhh.. now I'm enlightened.
The first time I went through that page, I thought there was one option to download the QB windows trial version, sorry.
According to the FAQ:
Q: How soon will I receive my software?
A: QuickBooks products are normally shipped within 24-48 hours of placing your order. Once commercially released, standard shipping for in-stock products is 7-10 business days (10-14 business days during the holidays)
Q: How will I know if my order has been processed?
A: Once Intuit processes your order (usually within 24 hours), we will send you an e-mail confirmation. Thereafter, you can check the status of your order online. Be sure to have your order number handy!
That status check link takes you here: Shipping Status Info
You could always call their customer service line and ask.

There has been quite a bit of discussion in this forum about that very thing, and the basic answer seems to be that there are too many differences in file format to allow it. You are not alone in wishing that capability was there, which you'll see if you type "conversion" into the search field for this forum.
