Linksys Router and iMac - internet not working

I have 3 questions:
when you have connected directly via ethernet:
1) what is the IP address that shows up in that field? is it a 192.168.1.x or 169.x.x.x?
It is a 169 number
2) what is the IP address that shows up in the router IP address? is it 192.168.x.x or something else.
192.168 number
3) are you able to access the router setup page? 192.168.1.1?
YES
I can FTP between my machines, I get an excellent signal. I tried to set up the MAC to share the internett connection but this reversed the issue and did not allow my PC's to be connected.
