Hi everybody, I'm writing from Italy. I'm a new Mac owner and I hope that someone can help me. Here is my problem: I got a new Powerbook G4, I tried to connect an external HDD LaCie by an USB port, my apple doesn't read anything. The green led on the hdd is on but I got no icons on my desktop. The hdd is a FAT 32 formatted unit, under WIN NT.
Thank you!!! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

The drive isn't showing up because the Mac OS doesn't recognize FAT32.
Use the Disk Utility app (Applications -> Utilities), to erase and format the drive. Under the Erase tab, format as Mac OS Extended.
WARNING
Doing this will wipe out any info currenty on the drive.

Actually, after doing some research, I've learned that OSX should be able to read Fat 32. (Who knew!!!)
So, if you're using OSX and the drive isn't showing up, check your Finder preferences (Finder -> Preferences), and make sure you have Hard Disks enabled to show on the desktop. (Either way however, it should show up in a Finder window, even if it's not on the desktop.)
Sorry for the misinformation ....
