...more on safari

It would be most helpful if, when posting a rant, you provided enough detail for us to figure out what exactly you're ranting about -- do you have some URLs you're having issues with? Examples would be most helpful.
I use Safari 99.9% of the time, and it seems to render every page I visit (granted, not a great variety) perfectly fine...

Try this URL, it's a pretty elaborate site which has multiple drop down menues under IE on a PC. On a Mac, I've yet to find a browser which works with the site. It was pretty sad to be forced to use my PC laptop to look at the site, when I much prefer my G4 Tower and iBook.

The site doesn't work with Mozilla/Camino either.
It's horribly written. It can't even be validated because it doesn't even look like HTML/XHTML. You can see for yourself here.
I don't even want Safari, or any other browser I use, to include extra bloat, code-muckery, and slowdown to be able to bend-over backwards for "sites" that that. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yea, that site clearly wouldn't render on any Mac browser, and probably only renders on IE for the PC. You can thank Microsoft for including PC-only, IE-specific, extensions to the "standard" for that one...apparently, supporting standards is OK, but it's also OK if you extend the standards into non-standard standards, which only your browser on your OS supports. Sigh.

Nope, never have and never will. But just knowing who wrote it, I have my suspicions that the Hotmail web client probably relies on a whole bunch of MS-specific code that other browsers just love to deal with.
Personally, I just use Mail.app to get my mail if I'm somewhere where I have access to my Mac. If I don't have my Mac, I either SSH to my mail host directly, or use a free webmail client to read mail online (with Safari on another Mac, and it works just fine, including attachments). I also read my mac.com account on Apple's webmail server, and it works amazingly well with Safari.
If you want to read Hotmail, I'd probably stick to IE. Hotmail = MS = IE, mac.com = Apple = Safari ... that's not to say Safari can't get better at handling Hotmail, but I really don't know who to blame for the current problems.

I use Safari 99% of the time and it's great. Only real problem I have is not being able to reply/forward/compose in Hotmail. I reported this to Apple using the feedback bug and know it will be fixed very soon. Can't say this about my experience as a PC user with IE. 'If it dont work there, it never will' seemed to be the Microsoft way...
Anyway, if you're having problems with the browser/particular sites, let Apple know by using the bug. Don't rely on others to report the bugs as this will only slow up the development process.
There's more on the whole Safari vs IE vs Microsoft debate in this thread

Skew, I have a Hotmail account and I have no issues with it whatsoever. I don't know how long you try to stay logged onto it, but I can easily stay on for half an hour or so no problem.
Do you have the latest version of Safari? If you don't, then that could also be an issue. Make sure you're up to date, or else your complaints may not be valid.
As a point of reference, Safari wasn't compatible with some online banks, such as Wells Fargo, for instance. Well, in it's later release, it has been corrected and works fine now with WF.
Please confirm your level of Safari. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
I'll even help you if you haven't upgraded: Safari v74 Upgrade

Hi
For me the latest Safari (1.0 v85) loaded it just a fast as the latest IE (5.2.3), something around five to seven seconds or so, I didn't clock it precisely or anything. I'm on a 1.5Mbps/256Kbps cable connection using a 1GHz Ti with 1GB of RAM and 10.2.6.
