Hi, I used to post on this forum as Suydam but, am having trouble with my password.
I experienced a virus yesterday which, distorted my computer screen with yellow vertical lines and images of bugs, beetles I think. The only programs I had used on my Mac were Safari, and I also opened an email from a friend but, there was no attachment. On Safari, I had only visited the Uplink and Nova forums at ambrosiasw.com. No one else there had the same problem though. Also, my friend says that her email bounced back and said that I hadn't recieved it, even though I did. Strange, huh?

It's pretty unlikely this is a virus.
You're saying that you saw bugs and critters on your screen? This sounds like a practical joke being played on your by someone.
Yellow lines on the screen usually indicate that your display or graphics card is failing. Which Mac to you have? There's a known problem with a number of eMacs having diplay defects.
Or perhaps you simply downloaded an Ambrosia game with bugs in it and are mistaking it for a virus? There are a number of them that have bugs and critters as part their gameplay.

Thanks for responding. How do I go to my terminal and type "top"?
And by the way, it was definately not a game on my computer. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif It was on my screen, while I was looking at the Ambrosia forums. At first, I thought their site was defaulting. Then, I realized that the lines were covering my entire moniter and that's when the actual bugs started appearing.

It could be a java script or something similar that was activated by going to a link, did anything download? Are the bugs still on your screen now?? whats the web site I want to go to it.

Okay, the full story is that I had stepped away from my computer for a long time so it had gone to sleep. To turn it back on I have to (and did) hit the return button. At that point, my mouse wasn't in use until I clicked the edge of the Safari screen. The site on the screen was http://www.ambrosias...topics&forum=EVNovawebboard&number=26&DaysPrune=20&LastLogin= but, I didn't actually click anything on it. Anyway, when it happened I kind of freaked and pulled the plug instead of using force quit. Afterwards, I ran Norton and everything seems fine. I haven't seen hide nor hair of them since.

In the Finder, click the Go menu and then click Applications. In your Applications folder you should see a folder titles Utilities. The Terminal program is in there. Just type "top" at the Unix prompt and when you are done, type "q" to exit.

Could it be that you have a screensaver of some sort that activated itself?
