Anyone been brave enough to instal the new Hardrive software update in their system preferences software update folder. The warnings with this update worries me a bit. Any Guinea pigs out there /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have one question, I thought software update only updates software that needs to be updated. Then why did this update show up, since it diden't update my HD's firmware and because my HD never needed to be updated??

I downloaded it from Apple, and ran the package, and installer let me select my HD without any warnings. I have a beige g3 with a sonnet g4/500, so I assume I don't need this update... But HD's have worn out on me...

Hi Grant (you Grand Old Hand),
Strange, considering you have a Cube and this is supposedly one of the computers that the update is for. I also have a Cube so I will have to check it out tonight.
Hmmm.
Jim
Of course the Apple info on this does read:
The Hard Drive Update 1 improves the longevity of some hard drives shipped in certain Power Mac G4 computers, including:
Power Mac G4 Cube
Power Mac G4 (AGP Graphics)
Power Mac G4 (Digital Audio)
Power Mac G4 (Gigabit Ethernet)
Power Mac G4 (Quicksilver)
Most drives do not need this update.
Nope "The hard drive update 1 did not find any drives requiring this update"

You got me, unless it has something to do with the way firmware updates are done, as opposed to software updates. Maybe it must download the software that it then uses to check (and update if necessary) the firmware.

P.S. Has anyone else noticed this little bug: In Safari 1.0 v.85 when you type in the text block to make a forum entry, whenever you use one of the Instant UBB Code selections (i.e. the italics I did above), when you hit enter, instead of the cursor going to the end of your text, now it takes you clear out of the window? Whuzzup?
