My powerbook 17's Fan makes a really annoying high pitched whizzing sound. Is this normal. I find it extremely distracting.

My fan is noisy also, but I don't like to get the computer so hot that the fan has to operate, so this is what I did. I went to a hardware store and bought some clear feet for my 17" PB (made by 3M). The feet are about three times thicker than the feet that come on the 17" PB, but if they keep the fran from coming on then I beleive it is worth losing the 1" height to have a computer that will probably last longer because it will not get as hot as to make the fan work. I installed the feet and I have not had the fan come on again at all. I also have been working with the computer in over 100 degree heat for the last ten days with no fan noise to worry about.
