I have a Power PC 9500 model 200mhz with a 2.0 gig SCSI hard drive. I just recently bought a 18 gig SCSI hard drive. I can't figuire how to terminate this hard drive, I do not want use my current 2.0 gig hard drive. When I install the hard drive and try to boot from my Mac OS 8.5 disk. All I get is a gray screen with my mouse pointer. If I try not to boot with the OS 8.5 cd-rom, I get a floppy disk symbol with a ? mark in the middle. What does this mean? Please would someone help me... Thank you in advance.

Assuming this is an internal drive you may need to do a couple of things:
1. Terminate the drive.
2. Set a SCSI ID.
You accomplish both things with jumpers (plastic doohickies that you place on connector pins at the back of the drive. The drive should have included these jumpers as well as instructions that tell you how to use the jumpers to set the ID and terminate the drive. Did such instructions come with the drive?

It sounds like a SCSI ID conflict.
If the drive is of fairly new manufacture, you should find information on the label showing you where and how to set the SCSI ID jumper. If it is the only drive in the system, set it as 0. 0 is the default setting for the primary hard drive, and in the long run it will help should you have any other SCSI issues down the road. Your CD-Rom is set at 3, the factory default unless you've changed it. The 9500 has two SCSI busses, with 6 IDs availble on each, one is the internal, for your drives and CDs and such, the other is the external, using the connection on the back of the case. You cannot have two SCSI devices with the same ID, on the same SCSI bus.
If there is no information on the label, go to the website for the manufacturer, and there you should be able to find the information you need for your model and serial number.
If you bought this drive as a bare drive, there may not be any jumpers on it. You'll need to find jumpers to fit it, and there may also be other settings you'll need to be concerned about, but that information should also be on the manufacturer's web site.
