Hey all,
I have a Performa 6290CD at home running Mac OS 8.1 and my Desktop Pictures Control Panel won't let me set any single picture as a background. It will allow me to tile smaller pictures but when I attempt to set a single picture the preview window turns pink. Setting the desktop in this situation doesnt help either. I have a tried many file formats of which none have worked. Any advice would be appreciated. - Helgie

I'm straining my memory here, but maybe the Appearance Control Panel's preference is corrupt? You might want to drag it onto the desktop (or trash it), and then reboot your Mac. Upon boot-up, the Mac will create a fresh new preference file. I'm sure there are other ways to solve the problem. Good Luck, in any event!

Krishna's correct. Trash the preference file and try again. There was a problem with the Appearances control panel in OS 8.x, and sometimes we would also replace the control panel along with the preference file.
