Hi Macworld,

Just got my first imac a few weeks back and all the softwares with it - Appleworks, imovie, iTunes, Stickies, chess etc are excellent but there're a few small questions that've been troubling me ---

Downloaded Netscape 7pr1 and it is now my sole browser as it is fast stable and with tabs....
...BUT how do I have Java working?? Do I need to download MRJ??? and where do I install it???

Which email client is the better
APPLE MAIL.app?
or the Netscape 7 mail? Not sure which to use

also- on the PC my dad forced me to use MS Office 2000's Outlook........How can I export all my important emails to the osx mailer??? I'm guessing the Netscape mail would be better for this?

Thanks for any help in advance,,,!

Not sure what you mean by downloading MRJ. OSX supports Java. Go to netscape pref folder/Advanced and make sure you have Java selected.

Email: the Apple Mail is pretty basic at the moment, but will be improved via the Jaguar update so no harm using it. Run your ISP and iDisk accounts through it. Unless of course you've got Office X in which case you'd probably want to use Entourage.

Use your Netscape email as well, really handy if you want to send emails with embedded photos and HTML etc.

To move my mail over I just dumped mine onto my iDisk then downloaded from my Mac. If you've got a lot of mail you'd prob' want to set up a network connection with your PC then just import through the Apple Mail import Mail Box option?

Yes, you need to d/l the latest release of the MRJ Plugin and install it in the ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder (if not already installed).

Edit -- you could also put it in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins if you want all users on your machine to access the plugin. Your choice.

thanks guys I downloaded the MRJplugin and it works now

Does the Netscape mail messenger handle large volumes of emails better? I have a LOT of existing emails. Does Apple's mail only use richtext? bit of a er as I have LOADS of html formatting and pix and stuff in my mails

Night Porter --- The windows Outlook 2000 emails are in their pst files
outlook.pst and archive.pst
once I have these on my mac
how is it possible for me to import these? From looking at Netscape and Apple mail imports I can only use mac sources --ie the macos9 outlook express etc

I dont have any mac office
