Hello, Has anyone seen this new online community thats coming out for OSX at the end of this year? its called secondlife, http://www.apple.com...ers/secondlife/ my question is , i was wanting to buy a new 15inch iMac but now i dont know? These are the requirements for this place,
System requirements will be as follows:
1 GHz G4 or better
256 MB
ATI Radeon 8500/GeForce 2 or better
OS X.2.6 or better
and this is what the iMac has
15-inch LCD flat screen
800MHz PowerPC G4
NVIDIA GeForce2 MX
32MB DDR video memory
256MB SDRAM
60GB Ultra ATA hard drive
10/100BASE-T Ethernet
56K V.92 internal modem
Apple Pro Speakers
AirPort Ready
Bluetooth Optional
Image
as you can see the requirements arent there for the 15inch iMac? so i looked at an eMac and here its specs,
512MB SDRAM - 1 DIMM
eMac Tilt & Swivel Stand
Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
1GHz PowerPC G4
60GB Ultra ATA drive
DVD-ROM/CD-RW Combo drive
Mac OS X and Mac OS 9 included
ATI Radeon 7500 graphics processor with 32MB of DDR memory.
and the eMac has enough with the 1Ghz but the graphics card is only 7500, where they are asking for an ATI Radeon 8500/GeForce 2 or better
so anyone know if this emac or iMac would work for this world. I know its prolly to early to be asking but was just trying to get some feedback on this. or am i just out of luck cause i cannot afford the 17 inch iMac or powerbook?

Just thought I'd post something about the OS version. Notice it says 10.2.6. If the game comes out at the end of the year then when does panther come out? Maybe it's just a typo. Probably just that.

Actually it is. Panther is "10.3". I guess my point was (stupid as it was) that most companies list the newest version of an operating system when their product isn't released yet. Probably because there are less bugs to work around and less OS versions to support.

Actually, companies list the minimum OS required to work with a product, and most often, it is the most recent release of the OS (at least it seems that way lately). Even if Panther is released before the game, the requirements won't change because it still holds true that the game will work with that OS.

But if you think about it what could be all that different from 10.2.5 and 10.2.6 in relation to the game? If it's a networking thing, wouldn't 10.3 have better network performance or at least be able to handle things better (read: less bugs /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif )

Mac OS X v10.2.6 was released in early May. Version 10.2.6 specifically introduced some specific changes to OpenGL and the graphics drivers that made games play better on it than previous versions; in fact, MacSoft's release of the Unreal Tournament 2003 beta tech demo didn't happen until that specific version of Mac OS X was released, for that very reason.
