Apple Certified Technician Training

Hi all
I am keen to find alternatives to Apple's courseware for the Apple Certified Technician. Apple's US site sells it for US $ 300... is there no cheaper deal around? I wish to do the desktop and server exams and the only way to prepare seems to be to get the course from Apple. Seems pretty pricey though.
Has anyone here bought the courseware? Is it worth it and what does it come with?
Can anyone give me some advice about the level of demand for Apple Certified techies? Is it worth my while doing the course and exams? I am in London UK - I would think the demand for Mac techies would be greater there than anywhere else considering the creative industries that operate there.
Anyone got any ideas? Any alternative to dishing out 300 bucks for that courseware? Has anyone taken the exams?
