I recently got an iMac upgraded to use OS X from a friend. I just hooked it up this evening, ready to figure everything out on my own (as the friend had thrown away all the documentation). The main administrator account is under my friend's name. I tried to make my own user account, but I didn't have access to all the things on the original user desktop, like the printer and other hardware. Since I don't have my friend's password, what should I do to make this MY computer and not a borrowed friend's computer?

Do you want to keep everything on there? If not, the easiest and best thing to do would be to reformat the hard drive and then reinstall OSX. It's best because you will be starting from scratch and a fresh hard drive is a happy hard drive.
Otherwise, I believe that with an OSX cd installed you can boot from the CD (hold C on startup) and change the owner's name and stuff from there.
Either way, you'll need an OSX cd to pop in there.
