Keyboard eject & sound volume buttons don't work

I have an emac that I purchased about one month ago. Sometimes the top row of buttons on the number keypad, that is, the sound buttons and the CD eject buttons won't work. (The eject button won't work even if there is no CD in the drive.) Logging out doesn't help. Only after I have restarted the computer will these buttons work. This doesn't sound like a hardware (keyboard) problem since the buttons will work after the computer has been restarted. Any suggestions?

Have you tried plugging the keyboard into another USB port?

Nope, I haven't tried that yet but when the problem resurfaces, I'll try that. Thanks for the suggestion.
