I've gotten your trial issue, and now I'm ready to make my order for a year's worth of subscription to your magazine. I tried to pay online, but it said that only USD funds would be accepted and if I were to pay the $29.97 in Canadian funds, I'd have to call that toll-free number. I called it, and get this... the lady on the phone tried to charge me $29.97USD! I told her that: "no... that's $29.97CDN, no USD".... and she says: "Well, we're not able to do that at this time, so if you pay by credit card, you'll have to pay $29.97 in USD, then have the bank transferred it back to Canadian". By now... most of you are confused, right? So was I !!
i don't think she really understands what I'm trying to say... if i were to pay $29.97USD and have my bank change that back into Canadian... i'd definitely end up paying MORE than $29.97. oh God... imagine the stupidity!
all i wanted was to pay for my subscription... that's PAY... for my subscription using my credit card through Canadian funds... and i followed every direction as indicated on your website... haven't your telephone operators been briefed about this?
i'm very dissapointed.... i hope i get feedback from at least somebody who can have some sort of control.

I'm amazed as well that no admin got here to say at least:
"Hey, I hear ya, we'll look into that."
But, let's give these busy people one more chance...

Absolutely. You should get a free year for your grief.

I got your note, passed it to our customer service people (when in doubt, customerservice@macworld.com is a good outlet) and gave them your e-mail address (from your forum registration) so they could contact you directly.
Have they not contacted you?
Customer service is better handled in private, not in a thread, I've found. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Jason, I didn't want to rant here if there was any other way. after hanging up with your staff, i was angry and frustrated that they couldn't help, since they are customer reps, i figure they were all the same.
anyhow, the customer service did get back to me, and i hope they're clearing this up. the reason why many canadians want to be billed in canadian funds is because the exchange rate from credit cards when transfering USD to CDN is much higher than the market rate, not to mention much MUCH higher than the advertised $29.97/year - which makes many Canadians (including me) very angry.
knowing that you can have a special route for Canadians is a big plus..... i know many Canadians would be interested in subscribing to your magazine.

OK.. I've been patient with you guys long enough. Any form of beauracracy would have this solved by now. This is ridiculous... all this time, I'm waiting to pay you my money, and none of you seem to give a damn.
If I don't hear from one of your reps in a week, I'll never subscribe to macworld again.
this is absolutely ridiculous.

Howing, you're howling in the wrong place. The subscription people don't check these forums -- this is an editorial forum and the editorial folks have no control over subscriptions (Canadian and otherwise).
If you have a number for Subscriptions, give 'em a call and voice your complaint.

I am a Canadian as well. I went through the same problem with MacWorld as well and gave up. I how ever didn't put the effort into it like you have. The way I look at it, 30 million people in Canada, 3% Apple Market share, let's say 1% of them would like to subscribe (it is probably more), that is only 900 subscriptions. Enough to make the 29.97 Canadian Funds link work considering it is a potential $27,000 in following up on a product they say works.
Let's face it though, MacWorld insn't the only guilty party in this gripe. Over seas I watch Fox news while offshore and this picks at me big time. When they go to commercial, they give world temperatures. They show temperatures from all over the world and not one in Canada when they show North America. To boot, they show temperatures from 4 cities in Australia and I'll bet they have a higher market share in Canada, not to mention we are geographically larger with a larger population.
Now I am just ranting. Ba-bye.
2bee or not 2bee.

I experienced the same fate. However, living in St.John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, I had to first convince the person at MacWorld that St.John's, NL was in Canada. The person told me that anything sent to St.John's, NL would be sent to the Netherlands, so that I was living in Europe, and had to pay a different rate than those in the US and Canada. Before hanging up in frustration, I asked her to tell me if I needed to buy a US bankdraft in Euros or Guilders, and how I could obtain these funds since I was living in Canada and NOT Holland. Go figure!!! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

<sigh> This thread speaks volumes re: the quality of education our young are receiving here in the USA these days. But that's another subject and way off-topic, so I probably shouldn't go there ... eh?

Waw! I guess that lady never mailed anything internationally? Or never heard that for you add another line on the bottom where you write the country? Duh.
( btw. I am not so sure a letter with NL instead of Netherlands will reach it's destination. It should, but I've never tried it other than with UK & USA. )

Ice, our own postal agency, Canada Post, who brought in the designation of NL for Newfoundland and Labrador, started to send items to the Netherlands rather that to Canada's 10th province. C'est la vie.
