Friends have a newer iMac that they have never used at OS X, only OS 9. Now they would like to start using it at OS X, but they say someone told them their USR/3Com 3CP3468A ISDN TErminal Adapter (modem) will not work with OS X. I looked on the USR site and it's a discontinued product, and the only driver available is for Windows XP. Do they have to get a new ISDN modem, and if so, what is the best oen most compatible with OS X (Jaguar), and should it be for an Ethernet or USB connection? And, is it relatively easy to set up? Does it use it's own driver? finally, it would make sense for them to get a combo ISDN router or switch, so they could use their two macs to share the isdn connection.
Thanks,

I would suggest an ethenet ISDN with built in router. I've used a DivaLAN ISDN modem. Since it's ethernet, there are no custom drivers. You access it via a browser to configure the modem for dialup connections.
If the current modem is ethernet, and is configured and working under OS 9, it should still work with OS X. The settings are usually stored internally in the modem. The custom software usually is required to modify or change the stored settings.
