Please help a networking newbie!
I just bought a Linksys BEFSR41 Router to share my roommates cable internet service. She has a PC/Win 98, and I have a G3 iMac/OSX. I cabled up all the hardware according to Linksys directions. In the network settings (on both machines), all the numbers (router IP address, computer IP addresses, etc.) are correct. Both computers and the router are set up for DHCP. All the proper lights seem to be on. But, when I open my browser and call up a web page (I tried several, on both computers) I get the page could not be displayed, check your settings page. The cable modem was working fine immediately before I started this whole setup, so I doubt it is the modem/cable service. I checked the firmware and it is up to date. I must have missed something. Anyone know what the problem could be?

Have you tried plugging the cable modem directly to your mac and seeing if it works?
If not, it means the modem is tied into the MAC address of your friends machine. I think if you turn the cable off for a while and plug the router into it, it will reset it self and should work. You could always clone the MAC address of her pc with the router so the company still saw that machine on.
