my cousin's ibook ran into a problem recently.
the ibook stopped putting out a display on the monitor. he thinks it is the video card, but at the same time he can plug in another monitor and that one will put out a display. i don't believe it might be the display it self or some type of lost software item rather than the video card.
any thoughts on this problem would be great.

I have heard that the weak point on -books is the monitor connection through the hinge. I have seen (somewhere? maybe at xlr8yourmac) reports of people fixing these things. So there's a possibility that no major part will be needed.

This is a "common" problem with iBooks of the year or so old era. There were problems with the hinge crimping the video and airport wires. Reseting PRAM can help, but if the screen blanks when he moves it, it is likely a short in the hinge.

he actually told me recently that there are multicolored lines that run in the screen that changes as he changes the background color on the other monitor. Any ideas on that new piece of info?

That and the video blanking really could be associated with just about anything hardware related. It doesn't really narrow anything down, unless you get the same video problems when mirroring, which might indicate the logic board is to blame.
