Two things.
Every time I start up or restart, I get a dialogue box appear saying:
"The program you are using needs to use a system file that may reduce the security of your computer.
The file "symfs.kext" has problems that may reduce the security of this computer. You should contact the manufacturer of the product for a new version. If you are sure the file is OK, you can allow the application to use it, or fix it and then use it. If you click don't use, any other files that depend on this will not be used."
What does 'symfs.kext' do? I always hit 'fix and use' and everything appears to be OK.
Secondly, even though the 'selected communications device' is connected, works, exists and is currently being used with a great deal of success, I get a message at startup saying that the selected communications device does not exist and to check my settings. What the...!! /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif The up shop of this is, I cannot simply use connect via the menu command; I have to open Internet Connect and go from there by just clicking 'connect' without changing any settings.
Both problems appeared at the same time. Just after I repaired the permissions after installing the Java Update.

Should I worry about this?

Well, I don't know about your second problem, but your first has to do with a Symantec product, as explained in this notice
You should run Symantec live update (and rerun it regularly)

Cheers squire, I'll run Live Update then.
I had no idea that it was anything to do with NAV. Do now though.
Edit: I only updated a couple of weeks ago and just downloaded 7Megs of updates. Disrupted my work for a good five minutes while installing them all. I need a coffee. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Cheers Grant, did that, but I'll have to wait until my next restart before I know whether it worked or not. If it wasn't that, It won't be too difficult to reinstall the Java update. Actually, if there have been loads of problems reported, there should be a fix out soonish so I might as well wait for that.

If you get the message The selected communications device does not exist. it may be the same problem I had. Go to System Preferences/Network and use Show to select Network Port Configurations. You will see a list of all your Ethernet, modem and similar connections. If you see two listings for a device delete one of them. Your final list should be only those items actually connected and only shown once. You can check those you normally want active and move them so that your main devices are at the top of the list.
To see if this works, simply put your Mac to sleep and re-awaken it. If the message doesnt appear you have solved this problem. I got this message even with no programs open and no modems or Ethernet devices connected!
