I am using Mac OS 10.2.6. This problem just started. Illustrator 10 has keeps quitting when I try to save. It has been affecting Photoshop and Outlook also, and the problem is getting worse. Photoshop will not recognize items that are on the clipboard from Illustrator.
I have not been able to find anything on the internet about this problem. I would appreciate any information or ideas about what the problem could be and how to fix it.
Thanks! - Cran

Try some of these:
1) Home > Library > Preferences > com.adobe.illustrator.plist -- delete it (the application will build a new prefs file the next time you boot). Do the same with any other .plist file that is giving you trouble; you will have to reset preferences.
2) Repair permissions at yourharddisk > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility. Click on your drive in the left column and select "First Aid" from the tab. It just takes a couple of minutes.
3) Reboot holding down Command-S. You'll get a pageful of UNIX code. When the cursor finally comes to rest on the far left, type fsck -y (there's a space in there) and hit "enter". This will diagnose your computer and repair what it can. It will either run forever (bad news -- see item 5), tell you your hard drive has been modified, or tell you it appears to be okay. If you get the middle one, rerun it until it tells you the last one. Then type reboot and again hit enter.
4) Download a copy of the freeware app Cocktail and open it. Click on the "System" tab and then "Cache." Delete them all. Then click on "Scripts" and run them all. Then as an added suggestion, run "Pilot" about once a month. This is actually "donationware" software, so if it helps you and you plan to keep it, please donate.

5) Finally (as I suspect directory damage) get DiskWarrior. To be effective it must be run from the CD so, if this IS the problem, you won't be up-and-running instantly. But you also won't be sorry you have this beautiful utility in your toolkit. It's $80, but money well spent.
Hope you find this helpful,
G

I had the same problem and have similar system setup as you. I was about ready to pull my hair out. Then I discovered that if I searched my HD for all items with the file extension .lst (usually Acrobat or Adobe fntlst docs) and trashed them, Illustrator was running fine. Now, whenever I have any Illustrator problems, I trash these files, which are usually found in the Home > Library and the system Library. I learned this on the .mac forums, and so far it's saved me from crashing and even from a problem where Illustrator simply would not launch, but kept getting hung up at the "reading fonts" location of startup. Good luck.
