After installing 10.2.8 if my computer goes to sleep when it wakes up there is box in the middle of a black screen and say in four different languages that I must hold down the start button for at least 3 seconds to shutdown my computer and then I can restart it.

That's a kernel panic, if you've never seen one before.
Use Disk Utility to check your system, and try resetting permissions. See if that helps.
