I have a Microsoft Publisher Document that I need on my Powerbook, running Panther. I have Appleworks 6. How would I convert it so I can use it on my Mac to print and edit? I don't have Virtual PC nor am I likely to get it anytime soon.

You can not convert it. Publsiher is proprietary to microsoft...
Note: MS Publisher DID NOT RUN on virtual PC either...
The only option I really know of is to save your document in MS Publisher as a PDF, and then open the PDF on your powerbook, You will not be able to manipulate the document in PDF, but will be able to open it, read it, or print it. You can also save it as a PDF or a TIFF file on your powerbook.
MS has no plans to port publisher to a mac compatible format. I loved publisher on my old PC, but you are out of luck on this one.

There might be another way, provided you have access to someone running PageMaker or InDesign on a PC. They can convert it to the native format, and then you could transfer to Mac.
Ugly, time-consuming, and not worth it, IMHO. Better to start from scratch. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Note: I have tried this...
The conversion program for adobe from publisher almost never works -- it does not support the most recent versions of MS Publisher, and the older versions it seems to pick and choose what it would like to convert and what not to convert.
I would say that if you have switched the the mac, you should probably explore new desktop publishing software specifically designed for the mac -- you will be surprised how many good things there are out there --
For example, AppleWorks comes with it's own small desktop publishing program that does just about everything that MS Publisher does, with just as many templates (and you can download more from free sites around the web as you need them)
InDesign is dandy for those people who understand a bit about page layout -- it is easy to use once you know the basics and extraordinarilly versatile -- and the new industry standard now that PageMaker is going the way of WordPerfect...
For easier and smaller projects, some of the desktop publishing stand-alones work quite well...but they will not work for projects you are going to outsource or print outside of your own office (i.e. Broderbund Print Shop or Print Explosion)
If you are partial to the Windows software, Office:mac works perfectly on the mac and can open all of your doc and exl documents, and it even runs faster and easier on the mac than it does on Windows.
AppleWorks also opens all word and excel documents.
Good luck!

Makes me long for the good old days when Personal Press (Silicon Beach) was the low end on the Mac, and did some rather good page layout work - in 1990 it was only $99 which was a bargain in those days. It took MS Publisher 9-10 years to add some of the capabilities PP had.
Oh well. I'm still on OS 9.2..2 for the most part using FrameMaker and PageMaker.
