I know battery questions get asked a fair bit but this one is a little different (i hope for you dear reader anyway :-) ). I have a REV III Tibook which was running 10.2.4 (killed battery i assume) and then 10.2.8. Now the battery says that is has full charge, but when i disconnect the power the system turns off (no sleep). So i can't run it dry. I have tired the open firmware trick and tried resetting the PMU under the keyboard with no success.
I know the battery is holding it's charge since the lights indicate 100% and the OS see the battery at 97%, plus I keep the battery out of the unit and only plug it in when i feel daring and always get the same result. Is the problem with the battery internals (how can i reset that) / how can i recalibrate my battery if it won't play with my OS ?. Any ideas would be appreciated, this is the only part on my mac that has fallen short.
Would reinstalling 10.2.0 solve anything ?

I have the Titanium 667 and I've had my share of battery problems. Most recently, the other day, after a full charge the machine said I had 16 minutes. (recharging was quick).I changed outlets, reset nvram in open firmwire, reset PMU all to no avail. I finally rebooted in OS 9.2.2. The meter said I had 4 minutes left. Then I did the following:
1) dumped the Power Management preferences
2) Shut down the machine
3) Reset the PMU
4) Booted into open firmware and typed (a) reset-nvram [hit Return key], (b) set-defaults [hit Return key] and © reset-all.
The machine automatically reboots after that last "return"
5) The machine said I had 0 minutes left, but I continued to work for 45 minutes when the screen finally went black. I plugged the power adapter in and I noticed that it was charging very slowly. I don't know how long it took to fully charge the battery because I went to a meeting.
The only weird thing is the meter is incorrect. It would not show how much time was left and the odometer said that the battery was at 0 capacity, but I was able to work for 1.25 hours which is much better than 16 minutes. After running the battery down and recharging, I finally rebooted into OS 10.2.8 and although the meter is still out of wack, its holding its charge for 1.25 hrs. The "set-defaults" may have caused the meter to go haywire.
If OS 9.2.2 is not installed on your computer, I have read elsewhere that the procedure will work if you just boot up using a OS 9.2.2 CD.
Hope this helps. Good luck!
