I will be the happiest man under the sun if you can help me solve my trouble! I'm trying to upgrade my 10.1.5. to 10.2 on PowerG4, Dual 450, 1 GB RAM but I can get only up to "Select Destination drive" and that is all - empty box is on my screen despite of 2 internal HD and one external Firewire HD! I run HD utility from Installer and the message was that discs appears OK.... I tried to run installation from 9.2.2. = same result. I asked my friend for his installation CD's = same situation. I took the only one third part PCI card out (Formac Pro TV), nothing changed at all. It takes me on the border of collapse.
Does anybody knows what is happening? /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Bump.
Some help here please. Mirkal PM'd me but I wasn't very much help to him. Can anyone think of anything? All I could think of is that perhaps he has the upgrade only CD and reformatted the drives before trying to install. But I really don't think that's the issue here.
Miroslav: You might have to wait until tomorrow or Saturday for anything to happen. It is Thanksgiving Day here in the US where most of our posters live. A major holiday for us.

All I could think was that the installer was set for upgrade, but none of the disks were eligible. But if that were so, they should still show up in the window, buy with an X through them.
When you get to the window where the disks should show up, click on the Option button at the bottom left and change the type of install you are trying to do to see if any of the disks show up. It''s a long shot.
My only other idea was that the disks were not formatted properly to accept the install, like maybe Mac OS Standard. But if that was the case, you wouldn't have been able to install OSX.1.
Can you try erasing one of the partitions or disks and doing a clean install?(assuming you are backed up)

Think you've hit the nail on the head - the fact that the Installer doesn't see any of the other HDDs means they are probably not OS Extended formatted. That'll need to be fixed first of all.
But since it seems obvious that the discs are upgrade ones, there shouldn't be any problems updating X.1.5, but there won't be an A&I install option as per the full/retail ones.
On top of that is that he's tried his friend's discs (could also be upgrades) and still no joy.
Are yuo sure X.1 wasn't able to work with OS standard format?
If he can still boot into X.1.5, then I'd suggest going to the Apple kbase and dl the Repair Privileges utility and using it. It's a long shot, but it's all I can think of given the situation. If that doesn't help, then either a reinstall of X.1 and updated to X.1.5 and Permsisions repaired - after first making sure the format has been set to Mac OS Extended.
Then try the Jag discs again - if still nothing, then the only option is to call Apple for replacements.
Out of curiosity merkal - try your discs in the friend's Mac - or rather try to install on your FW drive. This is long winded, but worth doing just to see what happens and to make sure of a few things.
Backup what's needed on the FW drive, and via Dsik Utility in Utilities folder of X.1.5 on the internal OS X, format the FW drive as Mac OS Extended with the "install OS 9 drivers enabled".
Now, boot from X.1 CDs and install onto the FW drive. Boot from FW drive (if it doesn't automatically) via Sys Prefs Start-up Disk or by holding Option (alt) key at the chime after a restart.
Right...update to X.1.5 and install and run Repair Privileges.
Now, boot from Jag disc 1 on your Mac and see if it'll allow you to install - don't need to go all the way, just see if you can get further than previously. If not, try your friend's disc 1 and see if the same thing happens - if yes, then off round to his house and try both disc 1's on his Mac with your FW drive connected.
If you have exactly the same outcome, then the discs (both) will need replaced. If not, and everything works fine on his Mac, then I'm not sure where that leaves you.
I think it could be (not 100% guarantee!) your CD/DVD drive that's at fault - the laser mechanism isn't able to read the disc without getting stuck somewhere along it's travel. That's the only logical thing I can think of if the discs work fine on your friend's Mac.

Dear Friends,
Thank you very much for all help you tried to give me with this strange problem. Im very glad to inform you that I got through (!) Maybe somebody else will get to the similar frustrating situation, so I would like to share my solution what I did:
1) I took all extra RAM memory out (750MB) and I left only original chip with 256MB in
2) I erased both internal HD previous saving of data of course
3) Booted from Jaguar CD > Disk Utilities > Erase disk
4) From the same CD and application I partitioned both HDs creating 10GB partition for OS and 20 GB for data (both disks are 30GB)
5) Booted from OS 9 CD and installed OS 9
6) IMPORTANT (!) I did not allowed to OS 9 installation software to upgrade disk drivers and I unchecked the box on Upgrade hard disk drivers seems this was a problem (???)
7) Got through 9.0 > 9.2 up to 9.2.2.
8) Installed OS X 10.1 on another HD
9) Got through all updates, Security updates, Installer updates up to 10.1.5
10) Booted from Jaguar CD >>>> it worked (!) Heureka!
So, maybe I did something wrongly or at least incorrectly, but it works and works just great and I love my Mac and Apple again.
Small, old and well-known trouble later during some software packages installation famous Error 95 not mountable file system. You can get easily through that creating some virtual user with administrator privileges and install all your stuff to Application folder (do not allow installation in your virtual user folder as you could have troubles I guess when you will delete this user after all.
Hardware: Power G4, dual 450, AGP, 1 GB Ram, 2 x int. 30 GB HD + 1 ext. 100GB drives.
Thank you once again for your effort trying to help me, to Mr. Grant in particular. I apologize for my English as it is not my first language.
Regards,
Miroslav

Some strange things going on there - you shouldn't have had any problems with 'upgrade disk drivers' - and equally, you shouldn't have had to set up another 'temporary' account.
Anyway, at least all's well - now all you need to do is launch Disk Utility and Repair Permissions on the OS X.2 booted drive and update to at least X.2.6 - .2.8 will be what you'll need when upgrading to Panther (unless you use the clean 'virgin' install or archive & install options)

Hello,
Thanks a lot for your interest and help. Sure, error 95 should not be there, however searching around a couple of guys on the forum reported that problem and trick how to avoid it, it is not from my head anyway - but, it worked. Strange. Anyway, I upgraded to 10.2.8. and I can tell you that this message disappeared and I can install being logged as myself (finally I'm the owner of my computer, seems ! hahaha).
Mac is great machine and this is what I'm trying to convince all WIN ruled local community around with some positive results, however Apple OS's are not an angels anyway and there is a lot of bugs like in any other system, maybe a bit less. You know all these "upgrades" seems to me more likely patches and second editions form my Windows times and "new" versions just bigger patches (but you have to pay for). And than we got 9.1 - patches - 9.2. - patches - 9.2.2 no more patches > OS X (great) - patches - OS X 10.1 - patches - Jaguar - patches - Panther - new patches every week - and then what - Tiger? Lion? Will be interesting to count all these beasts to know how many OS we can wait in the future from Steve. And all these major patches (“new OS’s) means another 120USD more and once again and once again. Same with Quick Time BTW, just for 29.99$. I'm not Mac user for long time, just only last 4-5 years but I have to admit that the most stable system was probably old good 9.2.2. and maybe 10.1.5. Including FC 1.2 was more stable than FC 3, not even mentioning the FC 2 fiasco, and some other Apple software is going same way, unfortunately. Taking that in consideration and last Macworld lab test over dual G5 speed versus dual PC machines where G5 lost in almost all test ...hm.... you can get to sad decision to shut down your bellowed Mac and buy some grey-looking WINTEL machine, sorry about that guys, it will be not my case anyway. Is that going to happened? Maybe Steve Jobs could tell us why he is screwing Mac users who loves his computers and his OS, ideas and design, all that inexplicable essence about one Mac if you know what I mean. Why we can't get a bloody second button on the mouse and solve finally networking with WINTEL machines? Then I will probably never ever can hear from my sons that they do prefer WINTEL because it is easier way.... no comments, it was to some stage my fault in their education seems, I appologize for that an they are only 7.5 year old, there is a plenty of time for corrections..
Anyway, thank you very much for interest to help, I really appreciate that a lot.
Best Regards,
Miro
