well, of course it does, in an iPod. That's not all there is to my question. I'm fighting off panic attacks because I just ordered 2 (!!) 30Gb iPods for my kids for Chirstmas. On Amazon (where they were on sale until I decided to finally order...), the 20 Gb and the 30Gb are the same price ($399). I know the 20 and 40Gb are "newer" but am not sure what that means, iPodally speaking. I also see that apple.com is no longer offering 30Gb iPods. That's a bit unnerving. But I went ahead and ordered the 30Gb models. Now, naturally, my question is, was that the right choice? Is there some reason to avoid the 30Gbs and go with the 20Gbs? These kids are young adults (17 and 21) and will use them mucho, so I know they are good gifts -- just not sure I selected correctly.

ipodwize the 15,30 and the current 10,20 and 40 gig models are all considert 3rd gen iPods, the 15 and 30gig version were only available for a few months. I assume this is due to toshiba's HD production, just a guess)
the 30 and 40gig models use HDs with 2 platters, the 10, 15 and 20 gig use HDs with only one platter. Thats why the latter are a tad thinner (2+some millimeters). thats all.
your choice was wize /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif (if size (in this case width) doesn't matter...)

I have a 30gb iPod that I bought on 5/2, the release night at the apple store... I feel like i've adequately put it through its paces in 7 months. 3,000 songs (not even half-full... this thing is a HOG!) switched flawlessly from PC to Mac, daily use including in the gym. iPod has not given me an ounce of grief. My only caution to you would be, beware iTunes as it is online crack. I've spent far too much time and money there... /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif
You've made a great choice. it's plenty of space, even if your kids have a ton of music. And it's the same technology, just a slightly earlier rev.

Thank you all!! I feel much better and my incipient buyer's remorse is fading away. I think it was the fact that I'm buying TWO - a big deal for me, especially since it's a new product to me. All replies are much appreciated.
