Someone else must be experiencing this same issue. I did a search but could not find any posts.
My dual G5 running Panther will not go into sleep mode after sitting idle for a while. The monitors power down but I have to manually set the machine to Sleep.
Why won't it go to sleep on its own?
Thanks.

did you set the prefs in the energy saver pref panel to tell it to go to sleep?

"do you have the recent SW updates? did you put on the latest firmware updates?"
There were some recent updates a couple of days ago that I installed.
What do you mean? I'm new to the Mac so please excuse my ignorance.
This problem only started after I upgraded to Panther. I have following settings under Energy Saver:
The computer is set to sleep after 30 minutes
I have not selected the "Put the display to sleep...."
I have selected "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep..."
Does that help?

Try creating another user to see if the problem persists.
If that fails try resetting you PRAM, by holding down
command option P R
at startup, at the second chime release the keys. Does the problem persist?

This may sound funny but are worried the display is not going to sleep. The HD can go sleep without the display.

Let me see if could pry something out of this phrase. Really the similiarities ends when you start moving the system sleep slider I think that is what it is called. When the system is set Never, the slider, you enjoy more varied sleep settings. I think it's a Default that you can't go beyond the System sleep setting with the Display. And I'm wondering if I'm answering question, Good Luck!!!!

Cap,
Do you have Print Center open. I've noticed in 10.2, if Print Center is open, my iBook won't sleep on it's own.

I noticed the same thing on my G5 recently. I know that it was not the case initially, the only change is the firmware update and the installation of Bluetooth DLink adapter. I haven't tried the PRAM zapping.

We have had problems with new dual 2 gig G5s on sleeping. If made to sleep via the monitor button, the machines have crashed and sent all 9 fans into overdrive. Apple suggests resetting some motherboard button which (in true Lord of the Rings style), you can only ever press once! However, this has not stopped disk corruption to the hard drive. The problem occurs with 2 out of 5 machines we purchased here. Has anyone else had this issue or seen it posted on Apple's forums?

Tried the PRAM thing, no print centre open.....
It's weird... Maybe I'll call and get some use out of AppleCare.
