xserver
Maybe I can't seem to find it, but Apple never mentions what type of processor is running their server. Since it has a peak of 2Ghz I would suspect it to be the 970, but the 970 uses like 93 watts and is 130nm, so that would be odd to find running in a server. So that makes me wonder, is it the 970FX which runs at 60 something watts and is 90nm. It's also 1U so it's not large which is another factor that makes me think it's running the 970FX. Does anyone know which G5 it's running.

The tech brief says is a 90 nm "process". I assume that's the same thing. Go to the xserve page on the apple website; on the right there's a link to "tech overview". It's down a couple of pages on the left side.
Hopefully, this means revisions soon. While a G5 is out of my budget (and my wife's decor), a faster iMac would be well received in our household. Even if it's the 1.42 chips that seem to have disappeared from Apple's lineup. Of course, a 90 nm G5 17" iMac would be even better...are you listening, Apple?
If I didn't see this new chip in the xserve, I'd probably be lining up to buy the next revision iMac. But seeing as how it's out there, I'm afraid to buy a G4 iMac right now.
I imagine it's how some folks feel about buying a PowerBook now.
