Please can someone help. I have installed X11 and when I try to open emacs in the xterm, it opens inside the terminal window and not in it's own x11 window as it does on my linux box. I have looked everywhere on the net to find a solution and nothing.
I'd be eternally grateful to anyone that could tell me what I've done worng.
Cheers

Well you must remember the MacOS-X terminal does not support xterm features and anything that coorelates with x window systems. So you have to download a seperate application which will launch the X Windowing enviroment. Apple in fact makes their own program which does this.Apple's X11

Thanks for your reply.
I have installed X1I and am running the xterm that comes with that not the terminal window that comes with os x.
Also. If i run x11 and xterm, then type xclock, I get the popup window with xclock running as I would have expected. The same can not be said of emacs.
Maybe I'm not understanding properly.
Cheers

emacs is designed to run in the terminal, it's not a X11 program, but it still should launch in the xterm, it could be because of defualts. I think there should be a version is /usr/X11R6/bin it should be xemacs. Ya I thought you were trying to launch X11 programs in the terminal

ahaa.. erm... the xemacs doesn't exist on my machine... any idea where I can get it from?
also, I have tried downloading another version of emacs that runs under osx, but as I suspected, I am unable to invoke it from the xterm window, thus I am unable to open emacs sessions from within a ssh session on a linux box. I'm a bit lost as to how to set up my mac to achieve this. any ideas?
