No. Firebird is a different browser from Mozilla. Do they use the same engine? They both use Gecko, but the Firebird 0.7 milestone build uses a different (older) version than Mozila 1.6 (which was built only a little while ago). Will you notice a difference in the rendering engine? Probably not unless you visit some really complicated web sites. Is the user experience different? Definitely. Firebird is much more compact, with support for extensions. Mozilla is the suite package.

If you're only interested in the browser, then Firebird is the choice for you. It tends to be faster than Mozilla (both interface and rendering speed). A Firebird 0.8 release should be released soon because according their roadmap, they will be relasing milestones around the same time as Mozilla. You can also get a nightly if you want something more recent.

If I can chime(ra) in here - since you are on X I would recommend CAMINO over the other Mozilla Org gekko engine'd browsers. Built using Cocoa and it flies. Been my finding that it renders pages faster than Mozilla 1.6 or M-Firebird. It also seems to play with Java better. If you want the sidebar for bookmarks,
use version 0.7 Build ID: 2003030613
Fully works with Flash, Shockwave, QT, WMP, and Real plug-ins
ftp://ftp.mozilla.or...amino/releases/
And the sweetest thing about it is - it is Mac OS X only. /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Firebird for Windows is my default browser on my PC. It's far better than IE in terms of speed and functionality--I no longer can live without a pop-up blocker, Google bar, or tabbed browsing.
The interface is clean, responsive, and the browser (even in 0.7 form) crashes less than IE for Windows.
I still prefer Safari on my Mac, since I like the progress bar in the address bar, and I like the interface better in Safari; but that being said, I really do like Firebird.
