ever since I have installed Panther, my applications... Mail, Safari, GraphicConveter, Photoshop, to name a few... all crash regulary.
I have a Dual 1ghz with 1GB of Ram. am running 10.3.2
I have reinstalled the system software. last time was a clean install. I used the option to erase the hard drive when reinstalling the software... not an archvie and install. then I dragged most of the contents of my backed up Home directory into the new Home directory. But I did not drag in the Fonts directory, because I suspected that Fonts were causing the problem. I had run Fonts Doctor, previously.
I have been running Onyx to repair permissions. I have run TechTool Pro. I have tried everything I can think of. and it is really frustrating me.
what about these two possibilites:
1. is it ok for me to be running 10.2.8 on another built in hard drive? because I am.
2. is it ok that I installed Panther on this computer from a Panther install disk that came with my new iBook? it says
" iBook G4 Mac OSX Install disk 1
CD version 1.0
27691-4554-A"
after installing I use system update to update to 10.3.2
then use Onyx to repair permissions.
there is nothing about the Panther for iBook that would cause my apps to crash is there???
and Panther doesn't care if Jaguar is on another installed Hard Drive does it????

I would imagine if an app needed a system Restart after installation, I'm wildly guessing that that needs to happen when you moved them and reinstalled them in the G4.

1. That's fine.
2. I don't know of anything from that disk that would cause your Powermac to crash other than karma. Using your iBook install CDs to install Panther is a violation of your software license and considered software piracy. Don't even think about asking Apple for help. They're not going to offer you any sympathy.
My advice: buy Panther legitimately and if problems continue come back here for more help and/or get Apple involved.

Suspects:
- RAM
- Any third-party peripherals such as tablets, mice, USB hubs, etc.
- Old versions of Application Program Enhancer (APE) from Unsanity
Remove peripherals, create a new user, login as the new user, see if problems persist. If so, try pulling some RAM and see if problems persist.

I agree with you on the panther thing... pay the money and get a legal copy and then ask apple fo rhelp with the installation if needed...

thanks, I will try removing peripherals and creating new user. but if it were one of my RAM modules, wouldn't Tech Tool Pro detect the bad RAM?

Not necessarily, though hopefully /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif. I've heard reports of RAM that tested fine, but caused issues, especially under Panther.

Glad to hear you got it resolved, and glad to hear you'll be getting legal on the big cat /forums/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif. Bad RAM is tough to diagnose as it can cause all sorts of weird behavior.
