remote desktop

Hi,
can I use remote desktop to administrate a mac in europe remotely from the US? is an internet connection enough, or how would I do this?

this might seen stupid to some of you, but I read somewhere that it works through either a local network OR the internet.
really no ideas?

Yeah, you read it on Apple's software page with the one sentence descriptions of their products: "Apple Remote Desktop. Manage Macs from network or Internet." You might also try reading their product description.
