HP LaserJet 4 Setuo

Hi, Im fairly new to Macs and I have a printer problem. I'm wondering if anyone knows how to hook-up an HP LaserJet 4 printer via a print server. I'm running OS 9.1, and have my computer connected through an ethernet card, into a USR 8022 router/print server and my printer connected into that. I tried entering it as a generic printer, and entered the address of the router. It printed, but 3 letters ended up printing out 3 pages of random numbers and letters. If anyone has encountered a similar problem, or has any insight please respond!!
